Two face charges for robbery – Investigation ongoing

Yesterday, following a 9-1-1 call reporting a robbery, North Bay Police arrested and charged two men.

Riley Rose, age 20, of North Bay, was charged with:

  • Two counts of robbery with a weapon;
  • One count of theft under $5,000;
  • One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime; and
  • One count of uttering threats.

Shane William Hughes, age 19, of North Bay, was charged with:

  • Two counts of robbery with a weapon;
  • One count of theft under $5,000;
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime; and
  • One count of breach of recognizance.

Between the evening of Tuesday, June 27th and Wednesday, June 28th, 2017, student graduates of a local secondary school held an after-prom party in a field off the corner of Four Mile Lake Road and Highway 63. It is alleged that the accused, who are not members of this graduating class and were not invited, attended the event and robbed two students at knifepoint. The accused took cash and alcohol from the victims.

It is also alleged that Rose, from whom police seized a flick knife, threatened to harm a third male victim.

Both accused were held in custody for bail hearings.

Prior to this incident, the victims, who were not injured, did not know the two accused.

The investigation is ongoing.
