Man faces several charges following break-in and threats
Following a break and enter investigation, North Bay Police arrested and charged:
Brett Jason Arthur Baxter, age 24, of North Bay with:
- One count of breach of probation;
- One count of break and enter;
- One count of disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence;
- One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and
- One count of utter threats to cause death or bodily harm.
It is alleged that on Sunday, June 25th, 2017, at approximately 3:20 a.m., a woman woke up in her residential unit to an unknown man standing in the doorway of her bedroom. He was wearing a disguise to cover his face and holding a kitchen knife in one hand and cigarette lighter in the other. He then threatened her before leaving the scene a short time later. The victim was not injured.
Following a 9-1-1 call, North Bay Police were immediately dispatched to the scene.
On police arrival, the accused, who was no longer in disguise, was outside the residence and began to interfere with the police investigation. Police arrested him on site and charged him for failing to comply with his probation order. Following a bail hearing, he was transferred to the North Bay Jail.
On Monday, June 26th, 2017, the North Bay Police Service executed a search warrant at the accused’s apartment. Police located and seized as evidence items believed to have been worn by the accused at the time of the break and enter.
Baxter, who remains in custody at the North Bay Jail, faces a bail hearing today on the charges related to the break-in.
