Two face assault with a weapon charges
On Saturday, following an investigation into an assault complaint, North Bay Police arrested and charged:
Michele Lindsey Hughes, age 27, of North Bay with:
- One count of assault with a weapon;
- One count of uttering threats; and
- One count of mischief under $5,000.
Nadine Melvaer, age 26, of North Bay with:
- One count of assault with a weapon.
On Saturday, February 4th, 2017, at about 7:30 p.m., in Melvaer’s residence, a verbal argument between the two women who are known to each other turned violent. It is alleged that while Hughes was leaving the residence, she was holding a kitchen knife while threatened Melvaer. The altercation continued outside the residence, at which time, it is alleged that Melvaer struck Hughes with a hammer. Hughes is also accused of slashing the tires of Melvaer’s vehicle before she left the scene to a nearby gas station, where paramedics and police were dispatched.
Both accused sustained injuries; Hughes required medical attention and was transported to hospital by ambulance.
Police seized a hammer and a kitchen knife as evidence.
Both accused were later released from custody. Melvaer is scheduled to appear in court on February 28th, 2017, while Hughes is scheduled to appear on March 14th, 2017.
