Single-vehicle collision leads to charges

On Sunday, following an investigation into an abandoned vehicle that had traveled off the roadway on Wallace Road near Trout Lake Road, North Bay Police arrested and charged the owner of the vehicle—a 24-year old North Bay man—with:

  • One count of fail to remain under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act; and
  • One count of public mischief under Canada’s Criminal Code.

It is alleged that in the morning of Sunday, February 26th, 2017, the accused drove his vehicle off of the roadway on Wallace Road and down a steep incline. The vehicle and the highway guardrails were extensively damaged as a result. The accused, who suffered no injuries, left the vehicle and fled the area on foot without contacting authorities or attempting to report the collision.

Later that morning, the accused called police to report that his vehicle was stolen. He later admitted to police that his vehicle had not been stolen and that he had been the one driving at the time of the single-vehicle collision.

The accused was released from custody with a court date scheduled for April 11th, 2017.
