Man charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
Yesterday, following a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation, patrol and Street Crime Unit officers of the North Bay Police Service arrested and charged:
Marvin David Toussaint, age 26, of Toronto with:
- One count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking; and
- One count of obstruct police.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 6th, 2016 at the bus station on Station Road, police approached the accused, who had just arrived from Toronto by bus, to inform him that he was under arrest, suspected of carrying drugs for the purpose of trafficking. The accused immediately threw the bag he was carrying to the ground and fled the scene on foot. Police arrested him following a short foot pursuit. When he was asked to identify himself following his arrest, the accused obstructed police by providing a false name.
Police seized the bag that the accused had abandoned, as well as its contents, which included:
- 55.4 grams of crack cocaine; and
- 4.6 grams of powdered cocaine.
The total street value of the drugs seized is estimated at $7,500.
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing today.
