Young person accused of theft from vehicles

Early this morning, during routine patrol, North Bay Police stopped two people who were observed by police to be consuming alcohol on the street. As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged a young person with:

  • One count of obstruct police officer;
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000;
  • Two counts of breach of probation; and
  • One count of breach of recognizance.

It is alleged that on Monday, September 26th, 2016, at approximately 1:28 a.m., when stopped by police for the unlawful consumption of alcohol, the accused identified himself to police with a false name. Following a police search after his arrest, it is alleged that the accused had in his possession numerous items consistent with thefts from motor vehicles.

The accused, whose name the North Bay Police Service will not be releasing in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was held in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

The other person stopped by police was issued a ticket under 31 (2) unlawful consumption of alcohol as described under Ontario’s Liquor Licence Act.
