Weekend Occurrences

Over the weekend, the North Bay Police Service responded to 256 calls for service and arrested and charged 15 people with the following offences:

  • One person was charged with one count of possessing counterfeit money, one count of possession of marijuana and one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000;
  • One person was charged with one count of possessing counterfeit money, three counts of uttering counterfeit money, one count of possession of marijuana, one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 and one count of breach of probation;
  • One person was charged with two counts of uttering counterfeit money, one count of possession of counterfeit money, one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, one count of carry concealed weapon and one count of possession of marijuana;
  • One person was charged with one count of possession of counterfeit money, one count of carry concealed weapon, one count of possession of marijuana, one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 and one count of possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • One person was charged with one count of drive while under suspension and two counts of breach of officer in charge undertaking;
  • One person was charged with one count of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, one count of possession of cocaine, one count of possession of morphine, and one count of possession of a prohibited device or ammunition;
  • One person was charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking (marijuana and methamphetamine), one count of possession of Percocet, one count of possession of a prohibited weapon, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of breach of probation.
  • One person was charged with one count of possession of methamphetamine pills;
  • One person was charged with one count of possession of methamphetamine and one count of possession of Percocet;
  • One person was charged with theft under $5000;
  • A young person was charged with one count of assault with a weapon, one count of mischief under $5000 and one count of resist police officer following a family dispute;
  • One person was charged with one count of fraud under $5000 and one count of use forged document; and
  • Three persons were charged with public intoxication.

Four accused of buying product with counterfeit money

On Saturday, following an investigation into a complaint from a retailer who suspected customers were paying for product with counterfeit American currency, North Bay Police arrested and charged one adult and three young persons.

An 18-year old Brampton male was charged with:

  • one count of possessing counterfeit money;
  • one count of possession of marijuana; and
  • one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.

A Brampton youth was charged with:

  • one count of possessing counterfeit money;
  • three counts of uttering counterfeit money;
  • one count of possession of marijuana;
  • one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000; and
  • one count of breach of probation.

A Brampton youth was charged with:

  • two counts of uttering counterfeit money;
  • one count of possession of counterfeit money;
  • one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000;
  • one count of carry concealed weapon; and
  • one count of possession of marijuana.

An Etobicoke youth was charged with:

  • one count of possession of counterfeit money;
  • one count of carry concealed weapon;
  • one count of possession of marijuana;
  • one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000; and
  • one count of possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose.

It is alleged that on Saturday, September 10th, 2016, two youths used counterfeit American currency to pay for product totalling $90 through two separate cashiers at a North Bay pharmacy. Shortly thereafter, the four accused went to a shopping mall on Fisher Street and used three counterfeit American $50 bills to pay for product at a department store through three separate cashiers, while the fourth accused used a counterfeit American $20 bill to pay for food at a fast food restaurant.

Suspecting the currency was counterfeit, a department store staff member called 911. Police were immediately dispatched. Shortly thereafter, police located the suspects in a vehicle parked in the mall parking lot where they were arrested. As a result of a search after their arrested, police seized:

  • three knives;
  • the merchandise purchased with the counterfeit money;
  • counterfeit American currency totalling $1,770;
  • Canadian currency obtained as change following the counterfeit transactions; and
  • the adult male’s vehicle was seized as offence-related property.

All of the accused parties were held in custody for bail hearings.

North Bay man faces drug charges

Following an ongoing Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation and the execution of a CDSA search warrant on the evening of Saturday September 10th 2016 at a residential unit located in an apartment building on Main Street East, officers with the North Bay Police Service’s Street Crime Unit arrested and charged the male tenant:

Leslie Robert Zielinski, age 45 with:

  • one count of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking;
  • one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000;
  • one count of possession of cocaine;
  • one count of possession of morphine; and
  • one count of possession of a prohibited weapons.

While executing the search warrant, police also arrested, searched and charged a 37-year old North Bay man for possession of three methamphetamine pills, which police seized as evidence.

As a result of the search of the residence and of Zielinski’s person, police seized:

  • 60 Methamphetamine tablets;
  • Three Hydromorph Contin tablets;
  • Under a gram of cocaine;
  • $540 in Canadian currency; and
  • a knife.

Both accused were released from custody with court appearances scheduled for October 18th, 2016.

North Bay woman faces drug charges

On Friday, following a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation, North Bay Police arrested and charged:

Andrea Helen Couchie, age 29, of North Bay with:

  • two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (marijuana and Methamphetamine);
  • one count of possession of a controlled substance (Percocet);
  • one count of possession of a prohibited weapon (pepper spray);
  • one count of possession of property obtained by crime ($60.00); and
  • one count of breach of probation.

On Friday September 9th, 2016, at approximately 6:45 p.m., police observed the accused with three other men on foot on the 500 block of Main Street East, in a rear parking lot. Suspecting they were consuming a controlled substance, police arrested them.

A search after the arrest of the accused’s belongings revealed that she was in possession of:

  • approximately 23.3 grams of marijuana;
  • 38 methamphetamine pills;
  • four Percocets;
  • a can of pepper spray; and
  • $60 in Canadian currency.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing. The three other suspects were released unconditionally.
