Persons say they are fundraising for a good cause…but are they legit?

The North Bay Police Service recently received a few complaints from residents concerned about persons who are fundraising at the door looking for money to support their participation in Sunday’s Terry Fox Run. The complainants’ concern is that the people who say they’re raising funds may be pocketing the donations for themselves.

Ways to donate to the Terry Fox Run
To ensure that your donation to the Terry Fox Run which takes place on Sunday, September 18, 2016 in North Bay, is going to the right place, do one of the following:

1. Donate online
Visit the fundraiser’s secure website at terryfox.org.

2. Donate in person
Visit the organizers at the registration table on the day of the run.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Rotary Pavilion, Lake Nipissing Waterfront, North Bay

3. Donate to friends, family members and people you know
Legitimate participants will either have a valid donation fundraising sheet or will ask you to donate through the terryfox.org website.

4. Donate at your door
Before you donate at your door, ask to see the person’s identification and check to make sure that he or she has a legitimate Terry Fox Run fundraising sheet. If you are satisfied that the person is legitimately fundraising on behalf of the foundation, ONLY give cheque donations addressed to the “THE TERRY FOX FOUNDATION.”
