Man faces drugs and weapon charges

Shortly before 5 p.m. on Wednesday August 3rd, 2016, officers with the North Bay Police Service’s Street Crime Unit observed two men outside at Fisher and Main Streets, with one man suspected to be holding a prohibited weapon. Before police were able to arrest him, he fled the scene on foot. Following a short pursuit, police arrested him on Regina Street. As a result of the investigation, police charged:

Corey Jason Lamarre, age 27, of North Bay with:

  • One count of possession of a prohibited weapon;
  • One count of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Two counts of possession of a schedule I substance;
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime;
  • One count of resist police officer; and
  • One count of breach of prohibition order.

As a result of the search of his person following his arrest, police seized as evidence:

  • 100 methamphetamine pills;
  • a small quantity of marijuana, cocaine and hydromorphone;
  • $400 in Canadian currency; and
  • a knife concealed in brass knuckles.

The total value of the drugs seized is estimated at $900. The accused was released from custody with a court date scheduled for September 13th, 2016.

Vehicle stop leads to HTA, CDSA and CC charges

Shortly after 3 p.m. yesterday, officers with the North Bay Police Service’s Street Crime Unit stopped a vehicle on Algonquin Avenue with information that the male driver’s licence was suspended. Following an investigation, police arrested and charged:

Wayne Thomas Kenneth Dawson, age 33, of North Bay with:

  • One count of driving while under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act;
  • Two counts of possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA);
  • One count of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking under the CDSA;
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime under the CDSA; and
  • One count of breach of Officer in Charge undertaking under the Criminal Code.

As a result of a search following his arrest, police seized as evidence:

  • 11.4 grams of cocaine;
  • 20.6 grams of marijuana;
  • 90 methamphetamine tablets;
  • $40 in Canadian currency; and
  • drug paraphernalia.

The total street value of the drugs seized is estimated at over $2,500. Police also seized the driver’s car as offence-related property. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
