Civic Holiday Weekend Occurrences

Over the long weekend, the North Bay Police Service responded to 355 calls for service and arrested and charged 16 people with the following offences:

  • One person was charged with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of mischief under $5000;
  • One person was charged with one count of sexual assault on a person under 16 and one count of sexual interference with a person under 16;
  • One person was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, one count of carry concealed weapon, one count of utter threats, three counts of breach of recognizance and two counts of breach of probation.
  • One person was charged with one count of utter threats, one count of assault causing bodily harm, one count of assault with a weapon and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • One person was charged with one count of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking; and one count of possession of property obtained by crime;
  • One person was charged with one count of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and two counts of breach of probation;
  • Two people were charged with domestic assault;
  • One person was charged with theft under $5000 (shoplifting) and two counts of breach of probation;
  • Six people were charged with public intoxication; and
  • One person was charged with three counts of breach of probation.

Woman faces charges for assault with a weapon and mischief following domestic dispute

On Sunday, following an investigation into a report of a domestic assault, North Bay Police arrested and charged:

A 44-year old North Bay woman with:

  • One count of assault with a weapon; and
  • One count of mischief under $5000.

It is alleged that on the evening of Sunday, July 31st, 2016, a verbal dispute between the accused and her male partner in their shared North Bay residence turned violent when she threw a glass mug at him. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result. It is also alleged that she then damaged a laptop and drywall within the residence.

The accused, whose name the North Bay Police Service is withholding from this media release in the interest of protecting the identity of the victim, was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 9th, 2016.

Man faces charges for sexual assault and sexual interference with a person under 16

On Friday, following an investigation into a report of a sexual assault, North Bay Police arrested and charged:

A 50-year old North Bay man with:

  • One count of sexual assault on a person under 16; and
  • One count of sexual interference with a person under 16.

It is alleged that at a public outdoor event on Main Street in the afternoon of Friday July 29th, 2016, the accused approached a female victim, previously unknown to each other, and groped her.

The accused, whose name the North Bay Police Service is withholding from this media release in the interest of protecting the identity of the victim, was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for September 6th, 2016.

Man faces several charges following altercation

On Saturday, following an investigation into a report of a suspected stabbing, North Bay Police arrested and charged:

Brendan Lee Chartier, age 30, of North Bay with:

  • Two counts of assault with a weapon;
  • One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • One count of carry concealed weapon;
  • One count of utter threats;
  • Three counts of breach of recognizance; and
  • Two counts of breach of probation.

It is alleged that on Saturday July 30th, 2016, shortly after 9 p.m., outside on Main Street East, the accused was injured following an altercation with two males. After the two unknown males fled the scene, a witness approached the accused out of concern for his condition. The accused then threatened the witness with a knife. Before fleeing the scene on foot, it is alleged the accused threw a can of beer at the witness, who did not sustain any injuries as a result of this occurrence.

Shortly thereafter, police located the accused on foot on Main Street, where he was arrested. A search following his arrest revealed that he was carrying a knife, which police seized as evidence. He is also accused of threatened a police officer while he was being transported to police headquarters. Chartier was held in custody for a bail hearing.

The investigation continues.

Man faces assault, threats and weapon charges

On Friday evening, following an investigation into two separate reports of assault, North Bay Police arrested and charged:

Robert Stewart Town, age 24, of North Bay with:

  • One count of utter threats;
  • One count of assault causing bodily harm;
  • One count of assault with a weapon; and
  • One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

It is alleged that on Friday July 29th, 2016, at about 6:15 p.m., the accused threatened a male resident of a North Bay apartment building, where they both live. The accused then punched a second male resident, who was injured and was transported to hospital by ambulance.

At about 6:50 p.m. that evening, the accused, who had fled the previous scene to a park on First Avenue, approached a male stranger and threatened him with a knife before leaving the park on foot. The victim, who immediately called 911, was not injured as a result of this occurrence.

Shortly thereafter, police located the accused nearby, where he was arrested, searched, taken into custody and held for a bail hearing. Police seized a knife he was carrying as evidence.

Two face drug charges

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday July 29th 2016, following an investigation into suspicious activity by occupants in a parked vehicle on Clarence Street, North Bay Police arrested and charged:

Stanley Edward Deveau, age 56, of North Bay with:

  • One count of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking; and
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime.

Dana Louise Heintz, age 46, of North Bay with:

  • One count of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking;
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime; and
  • Two counts of breach of probation.

Following a search after their arrests, police seized as evidence:

  • over $300 in Canadian currency;
  • under 100 grams of marijuana; and
  • drug paraphernalia.

Both accused were released from custody with court appearances scheduled for September 6th, 2016.
