Police officer suspended without pay

Following Ontario Court of Justice proceedings and findings of guilt with respect to Constable Steve Taylor’s impaired driving charge, the North Bay Police Service announces today that he has been suspended without pay, effective March 31st, 2016.

The decision was made in accordance with Section 89. (6) of the Police Services Act:

Suspension without pay
89. (6) If a chief of police, deputy chief of police or other police officer is convicted of an offence and sentenced to a term of imprisonment, the chief of police or board, as the case may be, may suspend him or her without pay, even if the conviction or sentence is under appeal.

Cst. Taylor will face a disciplinary hearing under the Police Services Act at a later date, to be announced soon.
