Weekend occurrences

Over the weekend, the North Bay Police Service responded to 218 calls for service and arrested and charged ten people with the following offences:

  • One person was charged with one count of obstruct peace officer and one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000;
  • One person was charged with two counts of assault, one count of assault with a weapon, one count of mischief, one count of uttering threats and two counts of breach of probation following a domestic incident;
  • One person was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and four counts of breach of probation following a domestic incident;
  • One person was charged with one count of assault and one count of mischief following a domestic incident;
  • Two people were charged with one count of domestic assault;
  • One person was charged with theft under $5000 (shoplifting) and three counts of breach of probation;
  • One person was charged with six counts of assault and two counts of uttering threats following a domestic incident.
  • One person was charged with one count of uttering threats; and
  • One person was charged with one count of criminal harassment.

Man who gives false name to police faces charges

Following a vehicle stop conducted on Friday evening, North Bay Police arrested and charged a 26-year old North Bay man with:

  • One count of obstruct police officer; and
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.

It is alleged that while the accused was in a parked vehicle on Metcalfe Street shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday February 19th, 2016, he provided police with a false name when questioned. An investigation into his true identity revealed that the accused was wanted by the North Bay Police Service for failing to appear in court with respect to another unrelated incident.

A police search following his arrest on Friday revealed that the accused had in his possession numerous items, including sports cards, which had been reported stolen from a residential break, enter and theft that occurred on February 16th, 2016.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man faces several charges following domestic dispute

Following an investigation into a domestic incident that occurred early Sunday morning, North Bay Police arrested and charged a 25-year old North Bay man with:

  • two counts of assault;
  • one count of assault with a weapon;
  • one count of mischief;
  • one count of uttering threats; and
  • two counts of breach of probation.

It is alleged that at approximately 2:45 a.m. on Sunday February 21st, a verbal argument between a man and his girlfriend in her neighbour’s North Bay residence turned violent when the man physically attacked her, threw a hub cap at her and damaged household items. Before he left the residence, the man also hit his girlfriend’s friend. When his girlfriend confronted him outside, he threatened her and then fled the scene on foot. Police arrested the accused shortly thereafter following a foot pursuit.

The victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of this incident.

The accused, whose name the North Bay Police Service is withholding in the interest of protecting the identity of the victims, was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Domestic dispute leads to charges

Following an investigation into a domestic incident that was reported to police on Sunday afternoon, North Bay Police arrested a 23-year old North Bay man at police headquarters and charged him with:

  • two counts of assault with a weapon; and
  • four counts of breach of probation.

It is alleged that on Wednesday February 17th, 2016, at about 12:30 p.m., an argument between the accused and his female partner in their shared residence turned violent when he threw kitchenware at her. The victim was not injured as a result of this incident.

The accused, whose name the North Bay Police Service is withholding in the interest of protecting the identity of the victim, was held in custody for a bail hearing.
