Snow means time for motorists to brush up on their winter driving skills

With the news that winter is in fact here today, the North Bay Police Service reminds motorists that speed limits are set for ideal road conditions. Please plan for delays and slow down for heavy snowfalls when roads are especially slippery.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation provides excellent resources for drivers to brush up on their winter driving skills:

The Winter Driving: Be Prepared, Be Safe! booklet contains helpful information about driving safely during winter conditions, and provides advice on winter road maintenance practices.

A Top Ten Tips to Prep for Winter Driving video includes advice such as always making sure your windows, mirrors, lights, and roof are cleared of snow and ice before you drive, as well as valuable tips for longer trips, such as calling 511 for provincial highway conditions, what to pack in a survival kit and what to do if you’re stranded.

The North Bay Police Service also recommends that drivers take three minutes to take the “Winter Tires Quiz” and another two and half minutes to take the “Winter Driving Quiz“.
