Weekend Occurrences

Over the weekend, North Bay Police responded to 247 calls for service, and arrested and charged 19 people with the following offences:

  • One person was charged with one count of unlawfully in a dwelling house and two counts of breach of probation;
  • One person was charged with one count of unlawfully in a dwelling house and three counts of breach of probation;
  • One person was charged with one count of possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking; one count of possession of marijuana; one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon; one count of carry concealed weapon; and one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.
  • One count of possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
  • One person was charged with one count of trafficking marijuana, one count of mischief under $5000, and two counts of breach of recognizance;
  • One person was charged with one count of mischief under $5000 and one count of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking;
  • One person was charged with one count of robbery with theft and one count of possession of marijuana;
  • One person was charged with one count of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking;
  • One person was charged with one count of possession of an edged weapon for dangerous purpose;
  • One person was charged with one count of break and enter and commit and one count of breach of probation;
  • One person was charged with one count of possession of cocaine and one count of obstruct police;
  • One person was charged with one count of transportation fraud and one count of assault police;
  • Five people were charged with public intoxication; and
  • Two people were charged with breach of recognizance.

 

Two men face charge for unlawfully in a dwelling house

On Saturday July 18th, 2015, a couple entered their newly rented downtown apartment with permission from their landlord to paint it before they move in. A man, who was already inside the apartment, told the couple that he had paid to stay until the end of the month. The couple immediately contacted the landlord who informed them that the apartment was vacant and to call police, which they did.

Following an investigation, North Bay Police arrested and charged Richard Euclide Michaud, age 31, of no fixed address with:

  • one count of unlawfully in dwelling house; and
  • three counts of breach of probation.

The next day (on Sunday July 19th, 2015) the couple returned to the same apartment to paint. While they were inside, a male stranger walked in. The man advised the couple that his belongings were inside, that he had been staying there for several days and that he had permission to do so. The couple called police who arrived immediately.

Following an investigation, North Bay Police arrested and charged:

Joshua James Fanjoy, age 29, of no fixed address with:

  • one count of unlawfully in a dwelling house; and
  • two counts of breach of probation.

Both accused were held in custody for bail hearings.

 

Two Mississauga men face trafficking charges

As a result of an ongoing Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation, the North Bay Police Service’s Street Crime unit arrested two men following a traffic stop conducted on Friday July 17th 2015 on Seymour Street at Station Road.

Following a search subsequent to the arrest, police charged:

Matthew Hickey, age 19, of Mississauga with:

  • one count of possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking;
  • one count of possession of marijuana;
  • one count of unauthorized possession of an edged weapon;
  • one count of carry concealed weapon; and
  • one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.

Khadeem Brown, age 18, of Mississauga with:

  • one count of possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

As a result of the investigation, police seized 254.5 grams of suspected crack cocaine with a potential street value of $38,100; 12.5 grams of suspected marijuana; $75.50 in Canadian currency; and an edged weapon.

Both accused were held in custody for bail hearings.

 

Several face charges following marijuana trafficking incident

Shortly before 5 p.m. on Sunday July 19th, 2015, five people arrived in a van at a residence in Callander to sell marijuana. Once at the residence, two stayed in the van while the three others were invited in by the two occupants. While inside, it is alleged that the male resident used an edged weapon to steal marijuana from his visitors, who immediately left the residence to join the two who were waiting outside. Upon hearing news of the theft, the two who had been waiting proceeded to cause damage to the residence and then left the scene with the others. A witness contacted police who responded immediately.

Following an investigation and a traffic stop of the suspected van on Lakeshore Drive, North Bay Police arrested and charged:

Abel Arnold Merrick, age 34, of West Nipissing with:

  • one count of trafficking marijuana;
  • one count of mischief under $5000; and
  • two counts of breach of recognizance.

Jordan Michael William Van Mierlo, age 29, of North Bay with:

  • one count of mischief under $5000; and
  • one count of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Jason Robert Laperriere, age 28 of Callander with:

  • one count of robbery with theft; and
  • one count of possession of marijuana.

A youth with:

  • one count of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

A youth with:

  • one count of possession of an edged weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Merrick and Laperriere were held in custody for bail hearings, while Van Mierlo was released from custody with a court date scheduled for Tuesday 25 August 2015. The two youthswere released from custody with hearing dates. In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, North Bay Police will not be releasing the names of the youth.

 

North Bay man faces break and enter charge

On Sunday July 19th, following an investigation into a break and enter that was reported to have occurred over the weekend of July 11-12 at an apartment on McIntyre Street East, North Bay Police arrested and charged Sheldon Gunner, age 21, at his North Bay residence with:

  • one count of break, enter and commit; and
  • four counts of breach of probation.

It is alleged that the accused broke into the premises and stole a number of DVDs and computer games, which North Bay Police seized as evidence.

The accused was released from custody with a court date scheduled for August 25th, 2015.
